denman island's grassroots tournament | soccer reunion of sorts
Advantages of year round soccer in southwest British Columbia, Vancouver Island and Gulf Islands is that summer soccer season brings a wealth of loosely structured community tournaments. Individuals of all walks of life and playing abilities come together to celebrate the beautiful game.
One of these individuals, Shel Brodsgaard, former keeper coach with Canada's national women's team, perpetuates this spirit on Denman Island. On the third weekend in July for the past four summers, his family & community volunteers host a seven aside tournament to raise funds for the continued development of the lone soccer field on this northern Gulf Island.
